Compression Stocking

Compression stockings, or compression socks, are specialized medical grade hosiery usually made from synthetic materials, such as Spandex.  They are elastic and very compressive.  The compression stockings offered at FACSJ do NOT contain any latex and are hypoallergenic.  Compression stocking are designed to help prevent lower extremity venous disorders, such as edema (swelling), phlebitis and thrombosis (clot, dvt).  In addition to requiring compression for a venous diagnosis, there are many industries that recommend compression therapy as preventative treatment for their employees.  Some of these include nurses and teachers, as they spend majority of the day on the feet.  Everyone must be measured for proper sizing, as there are many sizes and compression strengths.  In general, medical grade compression strength ranges from 15mmHg to 41mmHg.   Stockings come as one pair.
